The March Hare, Guildford

This is one of my favorite pubs in the whole UK. It is located next to the rather attractive Guilford Castle and its flower beds. The name of the pub, The March Hare is one of the loony characters of Alice in the Wonderland. The writer resided merely a few steps away.

We decided to sit in the pub area as that felt more casual for a Saturday lunch and they took our orders from the bar. The menu had a choice of great sounding seasonal dishes. I decided to go for a watercress salad with shredded beetroot. Sounded simple but I was very happy with the dish. It was everything I had hoped for as my starter – fresh and lean. I also ordered Occo Bucco (sic.) from the menu. Usually I do not eat meat but I wanted to see how they made it and It did not disappoint. The service was friendly and precise. I know I will be back for another weekend lunch.
