The Egerton House Hotel Bar – Knightsbridge

I must admit the original reason behind going to this place was that they advertised on facebook they would give free tickets to the nearby Pink Floyd Exhibition at the nearby V&A with drinks at the bar. I called twice to check it was for real – just sounded too good to be true! Spoiler alert: we had a fabulous evening!

The place is charming – charming in a cosy homey way – there is none of that corporate design that makes you think you are in a hotel as the place seems to have actually grown and adjusted over time. Feels like you are visiting family – the part of family you actually like!

We tried quite a few different cocktails and even challenged the barman (Esley Gunaratne) over the selection of various gin’s, origins and history of various cocktail recipes and he did not blink an eye and played along. Five stars to him in particular! Discreet but present, articulate and funny!

The bar area is cosy with different types of chairs and table arrangements and it is easy to have a conversation given the soft furnishings.
Another point is that they even welcome pets! Now that is quite unusual in London and – we believe – very civilised!

Although hidden behind a main street – the location is very convenient if shopping or visiting museums in the area and I get the sense the place is getting more and more attention so hope you get to visit before it becomes too popular!
